Chinatown Mural Art Project

The Chinatown Mural Art Project is a signature initiative of the Spring Mountain Corridor Redevelopment Plan. It transforms the district into a dynamic open-air art gallery, highlighting the artistic excellence and stories of the Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (ANHPI) communities that have helped shape Southern Nevada. Through a curated roster of local artists, the project celebrates community pride, cultural heritage, and the ongoing contributions of ANHPI residents to the region’s social, economic, and creative life.

Public Art Drives Economic Vitality

Public art is a powerful economic engine. Murals turn ordinary streets into destinations, encouraging longer visits, repeat trips, and social sharing that multiplies awareness. When visitors explore an arts corridor, they dine, shop, and book services, generating revenue for small businesses and tax bases alike. Art also improves walkability and perceived safety, inviting families to linger and discover. For locals, it builds neighborhood pride and a sense of belonging—proven drivers of spending and stewardship. By showcasing authentic stories and cultural excellence, Chinatown’s murals will elevate the district’s brand, attract cultural tourists, and catalyze partnerships that sustain jobs and lasting economic vitality.

Purpose and Alignment with the Redevelopment Plan

The Chinatown Mural Art Project directly supports the Plan’s goals for artistic placemaking, cultural preservation, and economic vitality. Public art in highly visible locations strengthens the identity of the corridor, fosters neighborhood pride, and enhances the pedestrian environment. These works contribute to the district’s recognition as a cultural destination while supporting small business activity and tourism.

Cultural and Artistic Approach

Murals will be created by a diverse lineup of artists whose work blends traditional motifs with contemporary design. Influences may include calligraphy, textile patterns, anime, and car culture—rendered in bold colors and large-scale compositions that are both striking from afar and rewarding up close. Each mural will tell stories unique to the Spring Mountain Corridor, ensuring residents and visitors see the community’s shared heritage reflected in public space.

Community Engagement and Process

Community engagement is central to the project’s success. During Phase 2 of the Inspiring Spring Mountain Redevelopment Plan, 84.1% of respondents expressed a desire for additional murals throughout Chinatown and the Spring Mountain Corridor. Future facilitated sessions will invite residents, business owners, and stakeholders to help shape mural themes, locations, and designs. Artists will incorporate this input to ensure the works are visually compelling, culturally resonant, and locally meaningful.

Artistic, Cultural and Business Approach

Each mural is co-designed in close consultation with the property and business owner. We start by listening—learning the site’s story, customer base, and brand voice. Using an anthropological approach, we translate business and cultural goals, needs, and desires into clear themes, color direction, and visual rhythm. We share sketches and narratives, refine together, and align on a concept that supports operations, wayfinding, and guest experience. Throughout, communication is transparent and paced to your workflow, so installation feels seamless. The result is a distinctive, audience-ready mural that welcomes customers, amplifies your identity, and enhances neighborhood presence while honoring the cultural spirit of Chinatown and Las Vegas.

Quality

All murals will be executed using high-quality, UV-resistant paints and will receive professional anti-graffiti coatings for long-term protection. Property owners will be provided with maintenance guidance and materials to ensure each work’s preservation.

While Clark County has identified several priority locations, additional property owners are encouraged to participate. For more information, contact Jayson Dagher with the Office of Clark County Commissioner Jones at Jayson.Dagher@ClarkCountyNV.gov.
